Namibian Judiciary Team on Bench-marking Visit

Kampala. The Deputy Chief Justice of Namibia, Hon. Justice Petrus Damaseb, led a delegation of judicial officers who are in the country on a bench-marking visit.
The team that include Namibian High Court Judge, Hon. Justice Thomas Masuku, paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice and were also taken on a guided tour of the Supreme Court as well as other courts.
The team was also hosted at the Court of Appeal and the Commercial Court. At Commercial Court, the team interacted with the head of court, Hon. Justice David Wangutusi. The Deputy Registrar in charge of Mediation, HW Vincent Mugabo, explained to the visiting delegation how the Alternative Dispute Resolution has helped in case management.
Hon.Justice Wangutusi also talked about e-filing which the court plans to introduce to reduce on the delay in the filing system of the courts. The Namibian team pointed out that the system had already been introduced in their courts but had not been spread to the lower courts.
Judiciary's Senior Law Reporting Officer, HW Jane Mugala, made a presentation on the Law Reporting System. She said one of the hiccups that her office faces is convincing some judicial officers to have their judgments uploaded on the public website.
Hon.Justice Wangutusi emphasized the need for judicial officers to be confident about their judgments.
